Federal Student Aid (FSA) will begin transitioning the TEACH Grant Program, TEACH Grant recipients, their grants, and any loans previously converted from TEACH Grants from FedLoan Servicing to the Higher Education Loan Authority of the State of Missouri (MOHELA) on September 15, 2022. Servicing transfers typically take 10 business days to complete. That means the transfer should finish before the end of the month.
This transfer will not impact the existing terms and conditions of the TEACH Grant Program. If your grant converts to a Direct Unsubsidized Loan, this change will not affect the available interest rates, loan discharge or forgiveness programs, or available repayment plans on the loans. It will also not impact your progress toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness if you also participate in that program.
All TEACH Grant Program participant accounts will transfer to MOHELA except for the accounts of TEACH Grant recipients who satisfy their service obligations by September 2022.
What to Expect
TEACH Grant Program participants can expect to receive three notices while their accounts transfer:
- Email from FSA in September to inform participants of the transfer
- Notice of transfer from FedLoan Servicing
- Welcome letter from MOHELA
MOHELA will assign a federal TEACH Grant account number to you, which may not be the same number you had with FedLoan Servicing. Your TEACH Grant account number will be included in your welcome letter. It will also be available online once you set up an account on mohela.com.
Create a user ID and password to begin managing your TEACH Grant account on mohela.com. Once logged in to your account, you can:
- Update your contact information
- Sign up for paperless correspondence delivery
- Download the MOHELA app
- Enroll in text and email notifications
It may take 3-4 business days after you receive your MOHELA welcome letter for your account to be available online.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Make sure you update your contact information on mohela.com to receive important information regarding your account.
TEACH Grant Forms
After the TEACH Grant Program transfers to MOHELA in September, FSA recommends that you wait to submit your TEACH Grant Certification of Qualifying Teaching form, service obligation suspension request, or service obligation discharge request until after you receive your welcome letter from MOHELA. You should also create an online account at mohela.com before submitting a new form, so that you can more easily track your progress.
If you submitted a TEACH Grant form to FedLoan Servicing that is being processed at the time of the transfer, we will forward it to MOHELA.
MOHELA will send reminders to submit your TEACH Grant Certification of Qualifying Teaching form in October, November, and December. The best way to ensure you see these reminders is to create an online account at mohela.com and make sure your contact information is up to date.
